About Common Good Grant Consulting
Elizabeth (Liz) Young is a social justice advocate and accomplished grant writer dedicated to empowering mission-based non-profit organizations in the Chicago area. A long-term client has described her as “the Swiss Army knife of small nonprofits.”
As the Founder of Common Good Grant Consulting, Liz leads a team that leverages collective capacity to drive positive change and redistribute wealth. In addition to her consulting work, Liz holds part-time positions as Development Director at the Quinn Center of St. Eulalia in Maywood and Advancement and Communications Coordinator for the Division of Mission and Ministry at Dominican University in River Forest.
Liz has a wealth of experience in grant writing, foundation relations, communications, and project management. Prior to launching her consulting venture, she directed an anti-poverty grantmaking program for the Archdiocese of Chicago and spent six years in Campus Ministry at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. Liz holds a BA in Anthropology and Spanish from the University of Notre Dame, as well as a Master of Arts in Social Justice and Community Development from Loyola University Chicago.
She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Brother David Darst Center and the Associate’s Board of Taller de Jose.
When not researching or writing grants, Liz can be found traveling, planning events, or checking out a new park with her rescue pup.
Core Values
Abundance: We operate from the belief that there is always enough to go around. We’re passionate about helping nonprofits move out of daily survival mode and into an abundance mindset that centers mission.
Accompaniment: We meet you where you are and develop a custom plan to walk with you as you set up the systems and strategy to accomplish your mission. We are companions, not consultants.
Solidarity: Driven by a desire to redistribute wealth, we are committed to working with organizations in historically, intentionally, and traditionally marginalized communities.
We are proud members of the Global Grant Writers Collective, a community of grant consultants from around the world who collaborate on projects, share best practices, and hone their craft together. This allows us to bring a team approach to every project and tap into a rich pool of subject matter experts for any organizational need that emerges during the consulting process!
